2024 Wells Fargo Championship leaderboard: Live updates, full coverage, golf

The final round of the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship comes down to two golfers: Xander Schauffele at 12 under and Rory McIlroy at 11 under. Everyone else, at this point in the tournament through 54 holes, is likely a footnote to either Schauffele’s first victory since the summer of 2022 or McIlroy’s history at Quail Hollow.

Schauffele has been the best player in the world since the 2022 Open who has not won an event worldwide. It’s somewhat shocking that this is the case given how well he’s been playing. McIlroy, on the other hand, will try to win for the fourth time at this tournament. He also won here in 2010 (his first), 2015 (a rout), 2021 and potentially 2024.

It could be a different version of what happened in 2014 when he took the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational the week before winning the PGA Championship at Valhalla, which takes place there again at Valhalla for the first time since 2014.

But, first things first. McIlroy is one back of Schauffele going into the final 18 holes but three shots clear of Sungjae Im and four of Sepp Straka, who sits in fourth. Those are the only two golfers within four of McIlroy and five of Schauffele.

The Schauffele-McIlroy duo combined to shoot 5 under on Saturday on a course that was playing 2 over on average with McIlroy doing most of the heavy lifting. As long as he keeps driving it like he has been and Schauffele tightens a few things up, it should be another great duel on Sunday in the finale as those two close out what has been a thrilling and competitive week in the sixth PGA Tour signature event of the season.
