About Melissa and The Kid

My name is Melissa.  I’m a novelist, freelance writer, travel planner, single mother and member of the Bushwick, Brooklyn community.  I’m a New Yorker with eternal wanderlust and I feel that I owe it to my daughter to show her the world. I am, according to friends and family, quirky, full of energy, exasperating due to my running circles around people and taking on more than I can chew, and, although I don’t hear it nearly as often, completely wonderful.

The Kid writes plays, makes movies, dances, sings and is smarter than your average bear. Whereas I tend to fly by the seat of my pants, the kid is methodical, careful and utterly responsible. The two of us balance each other out quite well. The kid has a gift for getting to know people, is a great listener, and can recite entire conversations verbatim. I think she’s a math whiz, but then, I think anyone with higher than a 4th grade math level is a genius.

The kid has been homeschooled since the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year. It’s been both exciting (for both of us) and scary (for me). I welcome your thoughts on education.

If you’re in need of editing, writing, business development or marketing services, drop me a line.  I’m always looking to build my clientele, and offer a reasonable array of prices and arrangements. I’m good at what I do, and come highly recommended.

Wish me luck and please throw me some suggestions on how to fundraise and travel on a dime.  I’m also actively reaching out to curriculum developers.

If you life in a faraway land (relative to New York), please consider giving up your couch, backyard, yert or spare bedroom for an evening or a week or a month.  I can promise a story in return.

Thanks for reading and please, follow our adventures and ‘like’ my Facebook page.
